oh no not the kitchen

any room but the kitchen, no, ok the kitchen it is.  That's the challenge at Scrap It Girl this month Kitchen color challenge.  I have to be honest the kitchen is not my favorite room in the house for a couple of reasons.  The first being this room has not been redone, the wall paper you see in the photo below is 20+ years old, uuuggghhhh!  The second reason, I don't particularly like to cook, lets say if it would to go in a top ten list for me it would definitely rank eleven and finally no matter how many times you do the dishes there is always more to do!

I wanted to share this photo below because this was my inspiration (the wallpaper, ugh, I know) for my projects below and I wanted to share that this is my all time favorite dish.  Yes that is a plate hanging by the red ribbon, yes the one with the big hole in it.  Isn't it fabby?  It is to me, not too many people have a plate with a hole in the middle.  My son brought this home one day from school, they were doing ceramics and somewhere along the way something went wrong and his plate exploded in the center.  He was quite disappointed and really didn't want to give it to  me, I on the other hand loved it and thought it to be very special and this is where it hangs.

So for the Scrap It Girl kitchen color challenge I picked the majority of my kitchen colors which are blues, browns(wood), creams.  I first made this card for the challenge but I still had some kitchen mojo left so....

I embossed the background then brayered the blue over it, love it
... I made a page, same color combo of course

here you see some green added for the leaves there actually is some green in the wallpaper leaves

So go on over and check out Scrap It Girl for the kitchen color challenge, oh and I hear  in November there will be a double challenge.  For October the prize is

octprize

Here are some more blogs you may want to check out and enter creations:

For my page I made I followed the sketch from Scrap & Music, my title is part of the song "she's got eyes of the bluest skies"  it fit perfectly for my photo.  I love the sketch.

It's a anything goes challenge at 2 Sisters challenge blog, a favorite for everyone.
Time to play Bingo at 4 Crafty Chicks, my page includes buttons, embossing (the butterfly) and flowers.
Allsorts challenge is "how does your garden grow", since I have lots of flowers I thought I would enter my layout.
All you have to do to enter Frosted Designs challenge is add texture to your project, I added gesso for the white circle , I also have several differnt textures of paper, metal, fabric, resin, metal.
For the monthly challenge at Natalie and Amy, it's shabby chic, that's what I was I was aiming for when I made my page.
Pile It On is having a leaf challenge, I used plenty of leaves on my page.
There is a flower challenge at Top Tip Tuesday and a DT call, all my paper flowers on my layout are handmade

Marvelous

So I thought I would play with the sketch at Berry71Blue, pretty cool sketch and along with their challenge you have to use some mixed media. I uses some gel modeling paste and a circle stencil to make the circles on the page I then inked them up

Who wood of thought

that working with a wood album wood be so much fun!

I chose the coffee album because I LOVE COFFEE and I thought what better to put in the album but the CREAM and Sugar of my life!

I used a lot of stencils on this album, love how it turned out

This was so much fun to work with the wood, I love it.  Over at Scrap It Girl this month there's a surprise mid month challenge Wood, yes the Back to School challenge is still in full swing until the end of the month, and now you can enter the Wood challenge too! It’s time to use your wood veneer pieces, wood chips, wood scraps, or do a home decor wood project.
I got my album from  Genuinely Jane Studios.   This was the perfect size and the wood is not to thick or heavy,  I would highly recommend giving a wood album a try if you haven't already.
You should head on over to Scrap It Girl and check out what the other team members made, very cool! and then get your wood on and enter!!  If you don't enter you can't win , here is the fabby prize Kimberly is giving away

Got wood prize ~

Now do you have some stash you have forgotten about or maybe a technique you haven't used in awhile if so check out Our Creative Corner .  (I had forgotten I had the silver stick on words)

Now if you have some Texture with a twist (choose your style) head on over to Crafts-Too, I think the wood album gives this project lots of texture, I also added some gel modeling paste to a page and used a stencil, it's a little hard to see in photo (it's on the first page) and as for my style, I honestly don't know what you call this?? modern? shabby? eclectic? girly? whimsical? I think I'm all over the board, that"s how I would define my style.

If you head over to Simon Says and stamp on anything besides plain paper , like I did with the wood album you can enter the challenge there.

In this album I chose to use some old flowers from my stash (at least old to me) the blue and white printed ones I have had for quite some time and I finally had the perfect project to use them on, go over to Shopping Our Stash and check out some more floral projects.

I also made my own zipper flowers I love that purple color, something new I hadn't done.  If you make your own flowers go over to  Try it on Tuesday and enter there.

and.....last but not least , are you ready to get Unruly, at Unruly Paper Arts, they got their wood on! Who new what you could do with wood, the RAQ1 is a 3d wooden project.

Ok, so that's all for now folks, until next time happy crafting and thanks for looking.

baseball, apple pie and chevrolet

Ok , this is just the baseball part, anybody else remember that commercial ?  I thought I would do a layout with Americas favorite pastime (not so sure, now it might be fb, ha)

This is my youngest. ,my baby, not so small anymore.  The ball field is his second home, many hours spent there.  I used Studio Calico stencil and sprayed Tim Holtz sailboat blue colorwash on it, love the vibrant contrast.  Then stenciled on some more with TCW chicken wire stencil, which to me looks like fence.  Then added the border and embellies, super simple , when I was making this I kept looking at thinking I need to add more stuff, it's too plain but I really liked the visual impact the clean and simple look made, so I left it.  Oh, and the red star that was my sons touch, I kept wanting to put a blue star there and he was insistant that the red was better, he won :)

Red, White and Blue is the challenge theme this month at Scrap It Girl.  Come on  get into the swing of things (bad of me huh?) and enter this month.  Make sure to check out the rules so you don't strike out (shame on me). You might just end up being the Allstar (I can't stop) for the month of July and hit a home run (ok I'll stop) by taking home this prize.

Seriously

My brother, always trying to get people to laugh, kidding around at a family picnic, hope this doesn't offend anyone, not my intention, nor my brothers. him just being goofy :)

This was so much fun and easy to , I just hand cut all the flags. I punched the starry things along with the jagged edged circle so I am entering this at Southern girls.  For the challenge at All Sorts you are supposed to think outside the box and use something that was not intended for crafting in the first place.  I used the backing to some button gemstones that was made for garments , the three black circles on the page are the plastic backings.  If you want a summer challenge there's lots of choices  at 2 Sisters .  Brown Sugar  ,  Creatalicious ,  Creative Corner and Deep Ocean   they are looking for Summer Fun, now I think my page qualifies we were at a picnic in the summer and having fun.    Now at My Time To Craft they want to see spots and stripes, I did use some spotty and striped paper to make some of my flags.  For some more stripes you can head over to Simon Says that's their challenge theme this week, I used several different papers with stripes on them.  I used mist and a stencil for the background, I also sprayed the background with goosebumps then stamped the splotchy dots   in the corners for a messy look so I am entering at Anything But A Card .  I chose to use three items from the list of ten at Desert Islands Crafts challenge, I used punches, patterned paper and spray mist.  This week Rick St Dennis is sponsoring Through the Craft room Door with an anything goes theme.     and last but not least in any way,  I followed an awesome sketch from Scrapfriends

Sketch Challenge # 14 - June 2013

Moments

honoring my dad

The cool thing about this page is the large photo I used for the background.  It's actually printed on an 8x10 sheet of photo paper.  I edited it in MDS so from the blue dots to the black and tan stripes is all one photo.  I had been wanting to try this for awhile now, what I had seen done before was all digital and very cool but I wanted to try traditional, I'm glad I did.  I also  love the punch of blue color and my metal embellishments I have had since I got back into scrapbooking that I have been waiting to use on that one perfect project.
This one I am happy with, see it's a challenge for me when I do masculine pages, flowers and ribbon are so much easier for me.  This one I am pleased with.

This month is die cuts at Scrap It Girl , I used a lot of Tim Holtz, I think in total 13 different die cuts.  Go check out Kim's Blog Scrap It Girl there are fun challenges and prizes to be won and check out the gallery for some inspiration.
